While in meditation itself, he attained Mahasamadhi by opening his Brahmarandhra. His last breath was taken on the sandalwood pyre on the banks of Ganga at Belur Math. It was on this very bank of the Ganges that his Guru Ramakrishna Paramhansa was cremated sixteen years ago.
